John Paul Joseph McCarthy was born on Christmas Eve to a shy nun named Sister Mary McCarthy in a small convent in Missouri. He was the product of a love affair between Sister Mary and the local priest, Father Arnold O'Doule. In order to protect John Paul's life, Sister Mary very cleverly left John Paul on the steps of the convent. The nuns, viewing the baby as a Christmas gift and miracle, took John Paul in as their own. While living in the convent, John Paul enjoyed a loving, albeit strict upbringing. The nuns, feeling that they mustn't let John Paul's obvious poor bloodline affect his character, put John Paul to work in the convent kitchen. He had a strict, but loving upbringing in the convent. However, upon reaching the age of 18, John Paul up and left Missouri on a big gay bus that was traveling through.

While on the big gay bus, John Paul saw the country's most wonderful sights, like the Habana Inn in Oklahoma City, a bear bar in West Hollywood, and a giant set of praying hands in Tulsa. The big gay bus dropped him off in Austin, and he's been here ever since, providing Austinites with sex toys, lattes, and glimpses of his hairy belly. Despite his apparent acclimation to the hustle and bustle of Austin life, John Paul occasionally misses convent life. In order to help himself adjust, he decided to change his name to Otto O'Rotic. He lives in a charming apartment with his charming wife and three charming cats.
